Genoa: July-September"27th Mediterranean Musical Festival - Eurafrica"

Fascinating museums and courtyards of historic buildings host the Mediterranean Music Festival.

The festival, now in its 27th edition, stands out for its national exclusives, for programs focused on specific themes, for prestigious locations such as the Museums of Castello D 'Albertis and S.Agostino, the courtyards of the historic palaces of Via Garibaldi, Palazzo Ducale, the Porto Antico and the squares and streets of the historic center, with concerts and various collateral events and exhibitions.

For many years UNESCO has recognized and sponsored the event for "the importance of the enhancement of languages and the promotion of peoples' cultures". EurAfrica reopens a path that, after the first half of the 20th century, begins to settle in Europe and its capitals, the return wave of French and English colonialism. The meeting between African and European musical culture is initially arduous: in Africa music has a predominantly socializing function, linked to daily rituals. In the West it is art for art, pleasure, aesthetics. Music of oral tradition meets written music. Analog and digital. Acoustic and percussive music in Africa. Electrified and mostly melodic music in Europe. But the music knows no boundaries: here is the birth of Afrobeat, Palm Wine Music, Juju, then arriving at the Râi, the music of the Algerians dissidents in the French banlieux. Paris, London and Brussels become the capitals of Euro-African music and artists like Cheb Khaled, Manu Dibango, Salif Keita, Mory Kante become international stars mixing tradition with rhythms and metropolitan sounds, putting together European and African musicians on the stage. Euro-African music always takes more shape evolving in thousands of projects, new styles and languages that unite peoples.

The 27th edition updates this path, tries to promote the meeting between the arts and the races, between the past and the present, with a look towards the future.
