Seventy years and does not show them! The Nice Jazz Festival celebrates its birthday [Video & photo gallery]

The Nice Jazz Festival, scheduled from 17 to 21 July 2018, is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, the first edition of which took place at the Nice Opera from 22 to 28 February 1948.

The program of events and concerts scheduled for the 2018 edition of the Nice Jazz Festival, now in its 70th edition, has been announced.
As for the "headquarters" of the Albert Ier Gardens, with the two stages, the one facing Place Massena and the other at Théâtre de Verdure, this is the program.

  • Monday 16th July 2018 

The festival will open with a performance by Gregory Porter in Place Massena, accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Nice Côte d'Azur. This famous singer will present his new album "Nat King Cole & Me", a personal tribute to the legendary singer.

The Théâtre de Verdure will host the eldest son of Clint Eastwood, Kyle Eastwood. Bassist and composer, he is also the author of the soundtracks for "Million Dollar Baby". This will be followed by saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings and "Sons of Kemet" who will present jazz pieces, with Afro and Caribbean influences. Also at the Théâtre de Verdure, 35 jazz musicians from Nice and the French Riviera will pay tribute to the artists who have marked the musical style.

  • Tuesday, 17th July, 2018 

In Place Massena will perform first group "R + R = Now", which collaborates with the greatest rappers of the moment, then the guitarist and Hawaiian singer Jack Johnson.

At the Théâtre de Verdure, however, it will be the turn of "The Amazing Keystone Big Band", a group of 17 musicians.

  • Wednesday, 18th July, 2018 

Deva Mahal, daughter of the great bluesman Taj Mahal, will present her first album "Run Deep" live on Place Massena. In the second part of the evening, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 will propose music based on funk, jazz, soul and African rhythms. To end this musical day, the rapper and artist of the year Orelsan will come to interpret his album "The party is over".

At the Théâtre de Verdure, will perform Camille Bertault, Laurent de Wilde and Joshua Redman, accompanied by Billy Hart Quart

  • Thursday, 19th July, 2018 

In Place Massena, Scottish, Nigerian and Liberian rappers of "Young Fathers" will open the evening, followed by Gary Clark Jr. - "the future of the blues", according to Barack Obama. The Massive Attack will perform at the end of the evening, on the occasion of their 30-year career.

The French pianist Baptiste Trotignon, together with the saxophonist Yosvany Terry, will share the stage of the Théâtre de Verdure. They will be followed by the singer and flutist Mélanie de Biasio and the pianist Henry Butler, accompanied by the Jambalaya Band.

  • Friday 20th  July 2018 

In Place Massena will open the evening the singer Bilal who describes his music as a mix of jazz-fusion, rock and funk, like the General Elektriks, who will perform later. Finally it will be the turn of the Austrian Parov Stelar with a demonstration of old-fashioned jazz, with shades of electric swing.

At the Théâtre de Verdure, the winner of the Tremplin Nice Jazz Festival returns this year. Jef Roques and his quartet had fascinated the jury with a jazz of Be-Bop accents. Tom Ibarra, Rhoda Scott and Israeli trumpet player Avishai Cohen will follow.

  • Saturday 21st July 2018 

In Place Massena, British singer Rag'n'Bone Man will present his album "Human", the sales leader in four countries. The Belgian group Soulwax will succeed him on stage with an anthology of electronic remixes.

Eric Legnini will pay tribute to the soul jazz pianist Les McCann at the Théâtre de Verdure. The festival will end with 90-year-old Randy Weston, who will accompany fans on a journey through the history of African civilizations.
