Still Lifes: exposition celebrate in Monaco the culinary traditions of Flanders and the Netherlands

In conjunction with the opening of our neighbouring restaurant, Maya Jah, the gallery is offering to whet the appetite of food connoisseurs with a selection of still lifes celebrating the culinary traditions of Flanders and the Netherlands in the 17th century. This series of significant paintings provides an opportunity to celebrate a highly popular genre, which is as festive as it is illusory!

Painted at the beginning of the 17th century, the large scene by Lucas van Valckenborgh and Georg Flegel sets the tone with an autumn market in the heart of Frankfurt. There is also a rare example of the work of the female painter Clara Peeters, featuring a tactile rendering of game and the plump belly of a wild duck. Floris van Dijck's depiction of gouda and delicacies will certainly entice visitors, while the Pseudo-Kassel reminds us of the importance of the china trade at this time. Together with the autumnal atmosphere of Soreau's work and Snyers' customary victuals, these Flemish painters provide us with a feast for the eyes!
