Recipe of the Week: Fözze bread from Ormea

Fözze are a unique ancient bread from Ormea often baked as a quick solution on the table when bread was missing.

A combination of milk and flour, Fözze are baked in the oven or wood stove. They evoke the warmth of the hearth, the peasant world, and working in the fields.

Ingredients:

  • milk, or cream
  • wheat flour
  • salt
  • baking soda

Directions:

Mix all ingredients to make a perfect dough, let rise and then, with the rolling pin, reduce to a thickness of about one centimeter.

Cut into small rectangles to bake for about 20 minutes, until golden. Fözze can be also slowly baked on the hot plate of a wood stove. Preparation time: 15 minutes.

Best enjoyed with bruss cheese and a glass of Ormeasco wine!
