100 years of Lavender in Nava

The festival "100 years of Lavender" will be held on Saturday July 23 and Sunday, July 24 in Nava - in the Imperia province, 934 m above sea level on the Ligurian Alps. The historic festival is 100 years old and has the task of promoting the new Riviera dei Fiori Lavender trademark.

The collection of wild lavender, which grows wild in the Maritime Alps over eight hundred meters, began in 1916. Wild Lavender flowers, often in inaccessible locations, were for the inhabitants of the Upper Arroscia Valley a significant source of income. In 1932 Lavender Coldinava trademark was created by Niggi, whilst local distilleries were competing for the superior quality of fragrant mountain lavender.

Today, the Riviera dei Fiori Lavender trademark wants to bring the cultivation of "Lavandula angustifolia vera" back. The festival “100 years of Lavender” in Nava is a testament to that.

Here is the Calendar of festivals:

- Sunday, July 17 Festival of Herbs and Lavender in Cosio d'Arroscia

- Saturday, July 30 Festival of Lavender in Pietrabruna

- Sunday, July 31 Festival of Lavender in Airole
