Imperia Winter Regatta: the largest sailing international event is back

Imperia Winter Regatta (IWR) - the largest sailing international event dedicated to classes 420 and 470 - is back in Imperia, capital of olive oil, December 4th to 8th. The event will bring crews from all over Europe and all over the world to Imperia: 13 countries enrolled to date, with about 200 crews. Mexico will also participate in the race.

Thanks to Imperia Yacht Club's efforts and GoImperia's valuable logistical support, IWR promises to be a great sporting event which will make Imperia the sailing capital of Winter again. At its 26th edition, IWR will take place in the port of Borgo Marina. Known as one of the most interesting winter sailing event, IWR has reached a significant size, managing to involve international teams. There are about 200 boats, from Italy and other 13 nations, to confirm the international success, especially thanks to the mild climate which allows racing in good conditions even during the Winter season.

Team members will compete in 420 (open and female) and 470 (male and female) classes. IWR is a ISAF event, recognized in the 470 class International Ranking List. In addition, 470 class crews will be in Imperia Winter Regatta in preparation to 2016 Rio De Janeiro Olympics. Main European crews will be present as IWR is, in fact, the most important winter regatta before the world championship held in Aregai next July. Greece, the Netherlands and Ireland are missing this year; however, Ukraine, Portugal, Finland, among others, are present, and England, absent in recent years, is back.

December 5^th to 8^th 2015, 470 classes race (male and female)

December 6^th to 8^th 2015, 420 classes race (open and female)

IWR is organized by Imperia Yacht Club in collaboration with GoImperia, and is made possible by the Liguria Region's support and the collaboration of the City of Imperia – Culture, Entertainment, and Sport Department, the Harbour Office, Imperia Coast Guard.
