A twinning of two cities: Gorbio and Dolceacqua

A cultural exchange is born from the twinning of two boroughs which have a lot of history in common.

A twinning of two cities: Gorbio and Dolceacqua

From June 13 to August 30 artists from the collection of Gorbio showed their pieces in Italy, and from July 10 to October 4 the Italian artists from Dolceacqua are exhibiting their art in France. This twinning and cultural exchange will continue over time and extend to other activities related to sport and languages.

The two boroughs have a long history in common: the first tower of the Dolceacqua castle was built by the Counts of Ventimiglia while, during the same time (XII century), they built the first defense tower in Gorbio. In addition, the Doria built the magnificent medieval Dolceacqua castle overlooking the village accessed by the famous bridge over the River Nervia, painted by Claude Monet.

Dolceacqua and Gorbio were both part of the County of Nice (the royal house of Savoy) from 1391 to 1860, year of the plebiscite which gave birth to the current borders. Furthermore, Dolceacqua and Gorbio share many religious traditions and festivities.

Lovers of art are invited to the first art exhibition of twinning between the two municipalities at the Castle Lascaris of Gorbio until October 4.

The artists representing Dolceacqua, are: RAYMOND Barbadirame - UGO TORNATORE - DE MORIS LEYVA - ERICA Rosson - LUCIA CLEMENTE - SYLVIE MAURY - Orestes POLIDORI - VINCENZO DI DONATO - MIRANDA Garoscio - LAURA CARPINE - ELEONORA VARNI - DAVID MARIA MARANI -
