Befana events in Piedmont

•  Start of the historical Carnival of Ivrea:

As every year on the 6th of January, the day of the Epiphany, the historic Carnival of Ivrea near Turin begins. The city is awakened to the sound of the pipes and drums that will announce the beginning of a new edition of the carnival. The historic Carnival of Ivrea is a unique event known and followed internationally, a "dream" that is always the same, but different, which manifests itself every year in the streets and squares of the city of Ivrea, tradition, entertainment, emotions and great ideals.

After the traditional march of pipes and drums through the streets of the city center, in front of the Town Hall, in the town square, the designated General, officially receives the investiture, with saber delivery from the outgoing General. At 4 pm, Mass will be held in the Duomo, in the presence of HE Bishop and all components of the historic carnival, during which the ceremony of the delivery of the Votive Candle from the Magnificent Podesta will take place.

• Feast of Apparition of the Lord in Orbassano:

5th of January for adults and children: in Piazza Umberto I, at 5.30 pm will be the "Arrival of the Re Magi", and at 9 pm, with a spectacular landing from the sky, the Befana will bring coal and socks full of sweets for everyone in Orbassano, near Turin. 

• Snowshoeing on the night of the Epiphany in Sauze D'Oulx:

A run with snowshoes under the stars in the light of the bright torches. A unique way to celebrate the Epiphany in Sauze d'Oulx. Epiphany snowshoeing is open to all, young and old, who want to try the challenge of the race or just want to walk in the fantastic surroundings of an enchanted landscape. The departure is January 5th at 6 pm from Piazzale Prariond.

For all participants it is planned: halt with hot drinks, recording the time for participation and giving a surprise with special gifts. Participants will be taken a photo on arrival, which can be picked up for free from January 6th, 2019 in the Tourist Office of Sauze d'Oulx.

The participation fee is € 10,00 for adults until the 5th of January (without snowshoes); 5.00 € for children (up to 12 years) until 4th January (without snowshoes); € 10,00 for the whole day of the event (without snowshoes) exclusively in the tourist office. It will be possible to rent snowshoes for all participants for the price of € 5.00 (it is requested to indicate the request, upon registration). The delivery of the chest number, the participation package and the rental of rented snowshoes will be possible the 5th January at the Tourist Office of Sauze d'Oulx from 10.00am to 5.30pm.
