#Verdon National Park, home of the deepest canyon in Europe

One of the most intriguing areas of Provence, in the south of France.

#Verdon National Park, home of the deepest canyon in Europe

Verdon National Park offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the southern region of France, Provence.

It covers a total of 180,000 hectares and presents a great variety of flora and fauna species.

More than 2000 species of plants are found in the park, 40 of which are native of the area.

Verdon National Park is also renewed for being the home of dozens of wolfs that came from Italy. Protected species in the park are also wild boars, dears, roe deers, steinbocks and mouflons

But the most interesting attraction in the park is without doubt its canyon, shaped by the Verdon river, which rises in Mercantour National Park and flows into the Durance river after 200 km.

The overhanging walls of the canyon reach the height of 1,500 metres, making it the deepest in Europe.

This location is great for water sports, like canoeing, rafting, canoe-kayak, but also for hiking, thanks to its amazing landscapes and beautiful perched villages.

One of the best paths for hiking is that of Martel, 14 km along the Verdon gorge: the walk starts from Paluds sur Verdon and lasts about six hours, passing through tunnels, galleries and breathtaking panoramic views.
