The number of Piedmont wines participating at the most specialised German Wine Fair has never been this high: 117 wineries, of which 13 from the province of Alessandria, 26 from Asti, 76 from Cuneo and 2 from Turin.

The fair, which started on March 13th, is coming to its end today, March 15th.

As Germany is one of Piedmont's main trading partners for food and wine, a hefty presence at Dusseldorf's fair was pivotal. Piedmont wines, beside bringing their world-wide fame thanks to their superior selections, promote the land they come from: Langhe, Roero e Monferrato area is the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list in 2014.

Italy is the second biggest wine-producing country in the world, after France: in 2014, Italy produced 44.739.000 hl, 2.826.964 hl of which were Piedmontese wines, where 80% is DOP wine and where export trends keep being upward (about 1,04 billions of Euro). Piedmont exports about 60% of its wine production and 70% is placed within the European Union markets. Hence, it goes without saying how Dusseldorf's Prowein is a major event not to be missed.

Some 6,000 exhibitors from 57 nations have announced their attendance at ProWein 2016 – all relevant wine regions of this world including 400 suppliers in the spirits department. This unique range will be complemented by a varied supporting programme with a whole host of tasting sessions and seminars.
