"I, Daniel Blake", directed by British director Ken Loach, won the Palme d'Or at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.
The film follows the Kafkaesque journey of Daniel Blake, unemployed forced to seek social services, and exposes the tangled bureaucratic system of British welfare.
Loach, who will turn 80 in less than a month, won the prestigious award exactly ten years ago with "The Wind That Shakes the Barley".
