Albenga's Historic Palio: four days immersed in a medieval atmosphere

Many new additions for the 2017 edition of Albenga's Historic Palio including tales of facts that actually happened in the Middle Ages and a new game!

The Palio will run July 20-23 and, as usual, open cellars, knights, duels, delicious food and lots of shows in the charming Old Town will enliven Albenga for 4 days.

The telling of tales that happened in 1227 will focus on the "Sacred and Profane” dichotomy, which has pervaded history for centuries and had its beginning at the roots of 1200. The Tradition of the festival with the celebration of ancient pagan rituals on the one hand, and the affirmation of Church authority on the other will be at the center stage of some fascinating tales.

Additionally, this year, the number of games will go up to four: the slingshot, on the 10th anniversary of the celebrated recognition for the city of Albenga, archery, tug of war, and the novelty of this year: the game "Medieval Family in Time of War". Fot his new game, each team will consist of three participants: a man who weighs less than 80 kg and will be dressed with a ring armor, a woman and a baby, who will have the task of delivering the camagoul - a traditional medieval protection for head and shoulders made of iron rings. The man will have to fill a bag with all the objects he will find on his way.

These games are very appreciated by participants and audience alike.

The full program of the holiday can be viewed on the website: www.paliostoricoalbenga.it
