Nice has five non-smoking beaches

Like the rest of France, Cote d'Azur has strict anti-smoking policies that are, by and large, taken seriously. Gone are the fume-filled days when every corner was perfumed by the tobacco of neighboring smokers. Thanks to relentless anti-smoking public service announcements, French people have kicked the habit en masse.

Beachcombers who arrive at the no-smoking beaches are reminded by a large sign that smoking is off limits.

France has tried for years to reduce the cigarette-butts-on-the-beach problem  by sending people around the beach passing out ashtrays, handing out pamphlets asking people  not to drop their cigarette butts on the beach, but nothing worked. In the end, like anywhere else in the world, nothing will change unless there is the threat of a fine behind it. So, smoking in these smoking free beaches is now also sanctioned.

The five "no smoking" beaches in Nice are very popular, especially for families and small children. They are located in front of Lenval Hospital in Saint Hélène, in front of Center Universitaire Méditerranéen, opposite Jardin Albert I kiosk and the Bains Militaires.

So these beaches are reserved for non-smokers, for mothers and children so they can make sand castles and not cigarette butt castles!
