Côte d’Azur - and the whole Alpes Maritime Department - is getting ready for tomorrow’s second turn in French presidental elections.

The first round of the 2017 French presidential election was held on 23 April 2017. As no candidate won a majority, a run-off election between the top two candidates, Emmanuel Macron of En Marche! and Marine Le Pen of the National Front (FN), will be held on 7 May 2017.

Although many mayors preferred not to declare their position on candidate selection, nineteen out of fortynine joined a plea in Macron’s favor: Philippe Pradal (Nizza), Louis Nègre (Cagnes-sur-Mer), Loïc Dombreval, Vence; Joseph Ségura (Saint Laurent du Var), AntoineVéran (Levens), Honoré Colomas (Saint André de la Roche), Isabelle Brès (Colomars), Stéphane Cherki (Èze), Bernard Cortes (Utelle), Fernand Blanchi (Valdeblore), Gérard Manfredi (Roquebillière), Colette Fabron (Saint Étienne de Tinée), Jean-Pierre Issautier (Saint Dalmasle Selvag), Jean Marie Bogini (Isola), Roger Maria (Clans), Jean Thaon (Utelle), RogerRoux (Beaulieu sur Mer), Gérard Steppel (Marie).

Additionally, Christian Estrosi - PACA Region and Metropolitan City President - addressed an open letter to Nice citizens inviting them to vote for Emmanuel Macron: "You are concerned about your future and that of your children, but Front National is not an answer to France’s problems. On May 7th, when you cast your vote, I’m asking you to think of Nice, to think about France, to the legacy we do not want to leave our children, who already look at the world in a different way from ours."

This call was also joined by representatives of the three monoteistic religions (Catholic, Islam, and Protestant) who signed another plea to vote for Emmanuel Macron. They emphasize how Marine Le Pen’s program is “irreconcilable with the faith, doctrine, values and tradition of their respective confessions.”
