An annual cycling event, Milan-San Remo 2017 will be held on Saturday the 18th of March. The first monument of the cycling season, it is the longest one day race on the professional calendar. Milan-San Remo marks the real start of the classics season and is often viewed as a sprinters classic.

The professional race is often a chance for the sprinters to win a major classic. This is reflected in the results with renowned sprinters like Zabel, Cippolini and Cavendish all taking victories here. It is not always the case however (see Pozzato, Cancellara and Gerrans).

Last year, the race was won by Arnaud Démare. After 293 kilometres of racing, he outsprinted Ben Swift and Jürgen Roelandts in Via Roma.

In the 2017 edition of Milan-San Remo, Van Avermaet, Sagan and Bouhanni will go head to head with Kristoff, Degenkolb and Cavendish, and with title defender Démare also competing.

Milan-San Remo is the perfect race for sprinters who do not back away from an occasional climb.
